Unhappy Silent Spinner?

So I've read a bit and heard that silent spinner are not the best wheels, but the only reason I've heard is that the little slits where the two pieces connect could catch a hedgie toe. So I was wondering if anyone knew a way to fill in the slits? I was thinking of putting a little clay in them. Would that make the wheel safe? I don't have it on the stand, it's clipped onto the side of the cage. Getting a whole other wheel is an option I suppose, but I do really like the silent spinner!

Some people have filled in the crack with caulking or something of that sort...but...all it does is trap all of the crapola/pee-ola, making it very difficult to clean.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Carolina Storm Wheel...whisper quiet, easy to clean and, most importantly, safe! Snarf loves his and all I hear is his little feet for 4 hours...and takes me under 5 minutes to clean.

Larry, from HHC, sells them. You can check it out here:

You can fill the slits on the Silent Spinner but to be honest, they are horrible! I had one for a few weeks and they're a pain to clean. Had to scrub the thing with hot water every single morning.

I highly recommend the Carolina Storm Wheel, it's very safe, silent and easy to clean!

I'm just pulling this off the top of my head but there's another issue with either the bolt that holds the wheel up, or something about the way its put together that becomes loose and can cause the wheel to fall apart, possibly falling onto your hedgehog. Again, I'm just pulling this off the top of my head, but I know there was something more than the urine slits.

Puffers is right, the yellow nut on the center is known to come loose, causing the wheel to fall over.

Silent Spinner wheels are know to rip toenails/toes off of hedgies and fall over while the hedgie is running. Not safe, in my opinion.

I very highly recommend the Carolina Storm Wheel (CSW) to everyone, it is completely safe, easy to clean and silent! Here is a link to the CSW and all the great reviews: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4844

I remember at looking at one of these in the pet store. I spun the wheel and the first thing it did was squeak louder than any of the other ones. Not exactly "silent" and seemed like a joke to me.

Silent Spinners have so many things wrong with them it isn't even worth buying. If you have to use a store bought wheel, go with the comfort wheel. It is noisier but things can easily be done to make it quieter and it doesn't have the same risks that a Silent Spinner has.

The wheel itself on the Silent Spinner extends out past the base which makes it very easy to tip over.

Okay, so instead of using the base you attach it directly to the cage. The problem is also that the nuts, both on the inside and the outside of the wheel can come undone as hedgie is wheeling and wheel falls off the cage.

The drainage slits down the center as well as the seam, catch little toes and nails and can rip out toe nails, toes and break legs. Covering the slit then holds all the urine and poop in the wheel making a total mess of hedgie.

The wheel is made of a brittle plastic that breaks fairly easily.

It's not really that Silent.
