Digging in the bathroom rug...good idea or bad idea?

I took Snuffles in the bathroom to explore yesterday since he is a typical hedgie and will only burrow in his fleece in his playpen and I wanted to see what he would actually do if he had nothing to burrow in. He became instantly obsessed with the bathroom rug. He got his little wet snoot down inside the threads and was sniffing and digging and tugging at it like it was his job! I'm actually thinking of getting a rug to use under his playpen to see if he'll be more active when he's out of his cage with the right stimulation around him.

Is this a good idea or are there safety issues? Our bathroom rug is a pretty high quality one- the threads are very tightly bound, the bottom isn't falling apart or crumbling, and I certainly wouldn't go get a cheap dollar store one for Snuffy to dig in.

He could get his toes or toenails stuck in the loops, so it's probably not very safe unless you're supervising.

Some bathroom mats dont have the loops. I think as long as yours doesnt there shouldnt be a problem. One of my boys LOVES getting into the carpet. He finds a spot and goes crazy annointing and I have no idea what was there. LOL
