I haven’t let Buddy roam completely free yet (only on my lap or my couch, supervised of course) for fear of him bolting under something and or getting stuck somewhere. So I’m looking at play pens. Opinions on these before I decide to purchase please! Thanks! 🙂

Hey! I have the one on the left but I’ve found it’s way too small for daily excessive. It was cheap though so you could buy a couple and link em together. I usually use it when “displaying” Christina (as bad as that sounds lol) to my little cousins or other people. It’s more of a presentation pen than an exploration pen. Not familiar with the second but it looks like a fun design!

Barred playpens like that are far too small - for any animal really, not just hogs. Have you considered DIY? You could make a really awesome playpen out of coroplast (or even cardboard if you wanted), for far cheaper and theyre 100% customisable - so you can make it as large or as small as you want. There's a tutorial on this forum, so you can see just how easy it is!

I find the playpen immensely helpful for bonding time with my new hedgehog. When I have it set up in front of his cage (2nd photo) I can sit there while tending to his cage each morning. Then I take him out and he can explore while still being close to (and getting accustomed to) me. He is also able to climb back in his cage when he wants.
With the pen not closed on itself in a circle, but spread out as it is in front of his cage, it creates a floor space twice the size it would otherwise.

So my hubby had a great idea, block off kitchen floor and let him roam free! I put some towels down (so he wasn’t on the cool floor) and I hung out with him there! It worked out great! I just need to sew some hides, tunnels and such so he can explode other stuff.

Looks great! What is he eating in the 2nd photo? I tried banana the other day, but Mecki wouldn't have it.
Not sure how true this is, but I saw somewhere that towels with loops should be avoided because they could catch a hedgie's nails. Did you have to block him from getting behind/around the refrig?

He does good on the towels but I plan to make him a fleece blanket for bonding time! |

Hello!
I have a pop up that has a bottom to it to protect my floor and to also protect my Tina from anything that might have fallen on the floor. I got it from Amazon. |
