Stumbled across a bird cage toy I had and wondered if it would be ok in a hedgehog cage. It could either be hung or just left on the floor.
I just wanted to be sure it would be safe. |
I'd say no as its wood and if they bite its possible to hurt their teeth

Been looking around at hedgehog care sites. I see recommended various hard plastic, toys, wood toys, metal (matchbox) cars (and wood cars). I guess I'm a bit confused as to why some of these hard items are considered ok but the wood toy in the photo might be considered a risk to their teeth.

I think the wood toy would be fine, I’ve used plenty of hard toys. Give it a go and see if he likes it.

I was told non of those are okay because I was looking for toys and saw some wood ones asked about them and got told no they are too dangerous on their teeth.
|
Wood isn't really dangerous on their teeth, the main issue with wood is that if your hedgehog gets mites then you will have to throw out all wood items as the mites can live in them. Most hedgehogs don't bite objects a lot although some do.
With the toy posted above I would be more concerned with the rope part catching their nails. |
Aah. I can see how the strings on the rope could catch a nail. I imagine that could apply to some plush toys as well then?
