Default Fleece tunnel?

For those of you who refer to a "fleece tunnel" do you mean you just twist up a piece of fleece into a tunnel for them to burrow in while you are holding them, or is it something that you actually sew? Thanks.

Depending on the context, it could probably mean either. I have an actual tunnel that is made from fleece in her cage, but sometimes when I'm playing with her outside her cage, I'll roll a part of a fleece blanket into a small tunnel for her to burrow through.

Here are a couple of examples of fleece tunnels you can get on Etsy:

When I talk about fleece tubes I am talking about these.

Its a sewn piece of fleece covering an oatmeal container.

Thanks. They are extremely simple to make.

That is Rose. I had offered Rose various tubes (pvc, oatmeal containers, etc), she wouldn't use them. She was interested in them, but when she would go in them, she didn't like the way they felt under her feet and would back out of them. I saw these covers made for chinchillas and decided to try it. Rose loved it! She would go in her tube and lay down and watch us. It was one of her most favorite items in her cage.

I later made more for my other hedgehogs and they too preferred the fleece covered tubes over the others I tried. They got better traction, and they were warm and soft to lay in. They are easy to remove, and washable, so it made using oatmeal canisters last a lot longer.

I'd love to have a fleece tunnel for hedgie. I am not smart enough to figure out how to make one for myself though.

I would love on of these too. I am not a good sewer in any way though. I have a machine and I am looking for classes at the moment. Mostly to make some of the stuff I have been buying myself. That way I can pick out the fabric I love (and my daughter since its her hedgie). I have kind of stollen her pet lol. If you have some directions on how to do it I would love it.

I wrote an article, with lots of images of the steps, for the IHA Newsletter last year. I may put it on my website sometime soon, just haven't had a chance to get to it. But here is a set of quick instructions:

1. Measure the length of the tube. Double that measurement and add 2 inches. That is the length of the fleece you need to cut.

2. Measure the circumference of the tube and add 1 inch, that is the width of the fleece. The extra inch is for sewing allowance.

3. Fold fleece length ways with the side you want facing outwards touching.

4. Sew a straight stitch down the length of the fleece.

5. Turn inside out and insert the tube. Then fold the extra over the tube. You will have about 2 inches where the fleece will overlap.

Thanks so much. I am going to try this. I am hopeful that I can at least sew a straight line lol. We will see.
