Default VERY picky eater...

My hedgehog will really only eat his commercial food and occasionally cat food. He won't touch dog food, fruits, vegetable, oats, any kind of insects, worms, etc. He ate one tiny piece of hamburger meat, but won't eat it anymore.

When I take him outside he acts like he's more interested in exploring than he is in eating. He won't eat bugs outside, and he won't eat the food I've hidden outside in an effort to get him to eat more of a variety.

Is there any way I can encourage him to try new foods? Will he get less picky as he gets older? He's only 9 weeks...

And also, exactly how much commercial food should he be eating every day? I give it to him free choice, but it seems like he's eating a very small amount.

Well, they eat cat food, certain fruit and vegetables, and live mealworms and dried crickets.
Dog food is too big for them, and bugs outside are not good to feed your hedgie. So, look for a good, reliable list of food to feed him. Oh, and I don't think oats are a good idea...... unless you use them for a bath. Sorry if I seem like I am bursting your bubble.

I forgot to tell you, I give Pixel 3-4 heaping, teaspoons of cat food a day so I have an idea of how much food she has eaten.

Commercial hedgie foods are crap. What kind are you feeding? You might want to check the Dry Cat Food list under nutrition here, and slowly introduce a couple of foods from there to your hedgie, then you can take away the commercial stuff.
