Default Vet says Meat and Cat good is bad

Hi. My vet says meat and cat food is bad, which are both regular staples in my hedgehogs diet, her cat foods first ingredient is meat, I have always fed her meat but the vets saying it’s horrible, it’s like candy for them, he says they need a hedgehog food like exotic nutrition or mazuri which confuses me too because these have chicken in them last time I checked I beloved, and bugs, and a little fruit and veg, basically he just says meat is a big no no and it will kill my hedgehog. What are ur thoughts

Weird. I’ve always been told that Mazuri hedgehog food is horrible for them. But my vet recommended it as well. Most vets aren’t super familiar with hedgehogs, and aren’t aware of what they need in their diet, thus would recommend hedgehog food, but really it is not good. A low fat high protein cat food (a mix of 2 or 3 types) should have the nutrients that he needs. As well as some insects, meal worms, super worms, crickets, etc. meat is not bad for hedgehogs, typically. And it is actually good if the first ingredient in the cat food is some type of meat. Mixing in veggies is also good, not so much fruits as they are so sugary

Hedgehog foods are like junk for hedgehogs. They are packed full of plant based fillers which they can't digest well, so the food is actually pointless and rubbish.

Meat is perfectly fine. I mean in the wild what do they eat - Mice, ground nesting birds, chicks and eggs, small snakes, loads of different insects.
That's all meat. Okay not the exact same meats we give, like they wouldn't get lamb or beef but that's what we have to offer and they love it, doesn't harm them.
The wet meats are really good too.

The good quality cat biscuits we feed just make sure they they get a balanced diet and good verity in nutrients, meat being the main ingredient is good.

Small amounts of fruit and veg is good too gives them more verity which is brilliant. But obviously its not important so long as your gut loading your insects with the veg.
