Default Food Amount?

I have been using open feeding but I am considering not doing it anymore. How much should I put in my hedgehog's bowl every night? She is a 5 months and 10 days old. Female. Any suggestions?

Usually 1-2 tablespoons is more than enough. It varies amongst hedgehogs of course, so adjust as necessary. i.e. if you feed two tablespoons, and notice her becoming overweight, then obviously reduce the amount of food offered.

My female, who is extremely active, when she gets kibble she gets 1 tablespoon + her insects - and there's always kibble leftover.

I'm only doing 1 tablespoon. Trying to use up the kibble from the breeder along with switch over to the blue and buffalo indoor hairball and weight control. She will eat the new stuff. I gave a little less kibble last night because I also gave some fine carrot slices, 2, a fingernail piece of green bell pepper and a small piece of chicken, she ate everything save for 2 little pieces of kibble.

When I was first establishing Christina’s diet, I weighed out her kibble every night and kept adding to it each night until she eventually left a few pieces in the bowl the next morning. At that point, I decided x amount was about what she would eat in kibble each night. I regularly weigh her as well and do visual weight checks to be sure she’s not becoming overweight, but she’s a very active girl. She gets about one hefty tablespoon of her diet mix every night along with insects. Depending on how many insects she eats, there are days here and there where she’ll leave some kibble, but I’d rather her eat the insects than the kibble anyway. But it’s all up to the individual hog!
