Honestly I agree with you, people are terrified to try foods with hedgehogs, and everything always seems a bit exaggerated too.
Like when I changed Holly's diet to come away from the biscuit more using the cooked meat and veg. And then I told someone else about it, and they were like "and what happens when she wont eat the biscuit because of the meat and veg and then you take it back out the diet and she starves herself" Like really ?? 5g of meat/meat&veg 2 times a week isnt exactly enough to even have that concern😂
Someone else told me she would go off her normal food by changing her diet like this, but I cant even see how with so small of an amount.
A bit if wet cat food 2-3 days in a week even if its needed to be taken out isnt going to be a problem.
To be honest the main times I've heard of a hedgehog starving them self was 1. Really sick hedgehogs 2. The food changed too suddenly and very drastically.
So I guess as long as and this goes with changing the diet in any way, if its not a sudden drastic change its not very likely to cause them to starve them self.
But I think it also depends on what you class as starving them-self too, because I read a post about a hedgehog starving itself and it only hadnt eaten anything for 2 days, by the 3rd day the hog had no problem eating !! See I count starving them-self if they wont eat anything for 3 or more days. 1-2 days they could just not fancy much, just like dogs do it and humans too.
