Default Coconut Oil in food

Hello,

So, I don't have my hedgie yet. I will get him on the 31st, and I bought for him this rachel ray food as it is one of the foods that the breeder recommended. I work at a veterinarian office and I would just prefer to find a comparable food from the brand that we use because I know the research that goes into their brand. I was wondering about this food it looks very comparable to the Rachel Ray food. I'm just worried because it has coconut oil in the food and I can't find anything that says no but I can't find anything that says yes. Help?

I think it should be fine, I've been told some people will use a little coconut oil when they make their hogs scrambled egg (obviously made without milk) so I think depending it where it comes it should be okay.

I cant open the links to compare the two though. So I dont know ingredients or the nutritional analysis of their of them.

From the link provided, the rachel ray food looks insanely poor quality. I mean, the first five ingredients are listed as follows; Wheat Flour, Glycerin, Rice Syrup, Potato Starch, Water... The first animal protein, chicken is the 8th ingredient - the fact that there is more rice syrup in this food than chicken; it's trash, and its a good idea to change. Unless theyre listed totally out of order, a good quality food should have animal protein as the very first ingredient listed, not half way down the ingredients list.

The hills food is also very, very high in protein at 40%; generally, the advice is to never exceed 35%, so I dont know if I would feel comfortable with feeding a hedgehog a food with such a high protein content, unless you want to find a different brand to mix it with (to lower the overall protein) or just find a different food altogether. There's a list of foods over here, if you want to have a look. The coconut oil present wouldn't bother me, and is perfectly fine - it's the sky high protein that would make me a little wary.
