Default Couple questions about Emily's current diet.

I was looking through some random posts about proper hedgehog diet, and it made me curious as to if Emily's current food was okay for her. I think her protein intake might be too high, if that is the case what ill effects could it have?

Default Re: Couple questions about Emily's current diet.

Assuming you feed an equal amount of each, the overall protein is 37%, which is a little on the high side but nothing to worry about at all, given that 30-35% is the range that's usually recommended. High protein isn't going to cause any problems unless the hedgehog in question has decreased function of the liver or kidneys already. I wouldn't recommend it for an elderly hog, but for a healthy adult or young one it's perfectly fine. The BB Wilderness on its own is high in fat, but the other two balance it out very well - the total is just under 13% fat, which is right within the recommended range. Innova and Blue Buffalo are considered top-tier food choices, and Authority is another good option, if not quite as good a brand, so overall it's a great combination of high-quality foods. It's also good that one of the foods (Innova) has a non-chicken meat source as the first ingredient - it's not necessary at all, but personally I like the idea of using at least one alternative protein source to add variety to a mix, and you have that covered as well.

Thanks for the reply. And the lady at the place I got her from said Emily was six months old when I got her. And yes she gets a relatively equal part of each. I'm glad food choice works out because she seems to enjoy it. The store I got her from was just feeding her Sunseed Hedgehog food, and she all but ignored it a few days into having her new food introduced.
