Hi everyone!
Joy is starting to be a very picky eater. I give her lots of options on her plates everyday but only eats the food that is not touching other food. So she now has separate dishes for all her different types of food. Lucky girl. Anyways she now gets every night; 8 crickets (gut loaded) 1 table spoon of chicken 1 table spoon of pare (babyfood) 1 table spoon of sweet potatoes (babyfood) 40 kibble of buffalo blue kitten 40 kibble of buffalo blue adult Turkey. 2 table spoons of broccoli Every couple of nights she gets a few little meal worms. every morning she has eaten all the crickets, all the chicken, all the pare, all the sweet potatoes, most of the broccoli and most of the kibble. Some nights she does not eat all the pare or sweet potatoes but will eat more kibble to compensate. We have tried and she wont eat Bananas, Peas, apples, yams, spanish, and carrots. Any ideas of anything else we can feed her? With the diet we have her on is she getting everything she needs? Thanks in advance! |

Honestly, she doesn't seem incredibly picky to me. Delia scoffs at the idea of trying something new. Her diet is very well-rounded. My only concern is that she may be slightly overfed. Make sure you keep up with her weight to make sure she doesn't get too plump.

The one thing she must eat is a healthy kibble with the appropriate amount of protein, fat and fiber (outlined in the nutrition section). Now, some people feed a more holistic diet, which if you want to do that, you can but you have to make sure she's still getting the correct amounts of protein, fat, and fiber. There's a holistic thread in the nutrition section too. But, if you're going with kibble for the primary diet, then that's all she really needs. The other stuff is just considered as a supplement.

I don't she would be overfed at all - it's really uncommon for a hedgehog to eat more than they need. Just keep an eye on her weight, if she gets chunky, feed lower fat foods. The stuff she's eating now though aren't high fat at all, so I wouldn't worry.
She also doesn't seem picky at all! :P There's no way I could get my boy to eat chicken, or pear, or sweet potatoes, or broccoli. Be glad she eats that much! Sounds like she has a great healthy diet.

That's not picky at all!
All Kashi eats is kibbles and mealworms... I gave him some expensive butter worms once, and he bit them once and was like a "yuckkk" and would not touch it afterwards..
