Default Stinky Pee!

So recently Maximus' unripe has begun to smell quite bad. I'm feeding him Royal Canin sensitive diet cat food. He loves it and has had no issue with it for almost 8 months. But over the past month or two I've noticed he has very stinky pee. I think it may be the fish oils in the ingredient list but I'm not 100%

The litter I use doesn't seem to neutralize he smell anymore. So my question is what food would you recommend? And what kind of litter? I had the typical cat litter but he loved to dig through it and before I knew it, it was everywhere except for the litter box.

Please help me choose a new food. I can't stand the smell anymore

Have you changed anything else in his diet or environment that could explain the change in smell? What about the food - is it a new bag? If not, I'd schedule a vet appointment. I wouldn't consider a change like this due to a food that he's been on for 8 months without issue. It'd be a good idea to get things checked out in case he has an infection or other issue.

I would definitely change litter too - even if you haven't had problems yet, cat litter (even non-clumping) can easily get stuck in a male's penis & cause irritation or problems. There have been a few cases of males even chewing their penis up due to something that was stuck irritating them. Personally I would just try paper towels or fabric pads (hand-made - you can make yourself like liners or buy them online from someone). But people have also had good luck with Carefresh and Yesterday's News pellets.

Also, though I don't think that is probably what is causing the smell, I agree with changing his food too! I'm not a fan of Royal Canin - their food tends to be way too expensive for the quality. This sticky has some good brands to look at - and this one explains what you're looking for so you can check other brands that aren't on the list -

Thank you for your response! I use Yesterday's news, I've never had an issue with it, only now that it doesn't seem to neutralize the odour anymore. I'm not too concerned about that, only making him less stinky.

Is there any specific food you would recommend? I'll pop over the petsmart and start going over their products. Thanks again
