Default Heating the Cage with a Space Heater

Hey guys! I'm preparing everything I need for my new future baby hedgie (few more weeks!). So being a soon to be new hedgehog owner I'm obviously freaking out over any hibernation attempts by my hedgie! Especially with it being winter time and all. So the apartment I stay at has the AC/Heat unit in the bedroom (where the hedgie will stay) but my roomie and I can't sleep with a room too hot so we keep the heat at about 72ish give or take on auto. I was planning on getting this ceramic space heater from Home Depot
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lasko-MyH...1vZc8ogZ2bctl0

This would be used to heat up the sterilite bin that I'll be using as a cage, along with fleece liners and warm cozzy sacks.

So, will this be enough for my hedgie? I read through other threads about space heaters possibly turning off? Or even just short circuiting? But I can't tell if that's the forced air ones or the ceramic ones? And if for some reason my space heater did turn off while I was away, will the AC/Heat unit (which we keep on all day and night) be sufficient for the hedgie until I can turn the space heater back on when I return from school/work?

Thanks for any help!

I think if you guys are looking for something to keep just the cage warm, but not the room, you actually want a CHE set up, not a space heater. A CHE set up consists of a ceramic heat emitter (CHE) bulb, a lamp that's rated safe for CHEs, and a thermostat, and as always, you need a thermometer in the cage as well. For a sterilite bin, you could probably do just fine with an 8" lamp (though 10" is usually recommended & if you think you may upgrade or change his cage at some point, I would go with a 10") and a 60-watt or 100-watt bulb. If you take a look through this forum section, you'll find more discussions of CHE set ups, as well as plenty of posts that link to suggested products.

Thanks so much! Decided to go with your recommendation and use a CHE setup!
