CHE

Hi i was looking into a CHE for my hedgie pokey. right now in her cage it is 21.4 Degrees Celius. i really need help for prices and places to get the CHE and i would also need a thermostat for the bulb. i'm going to need specific info because i just heard of the CHE tonight so i'm not so educated in it. Please Help!

Prices and availability vary, so we can't really help with that.

You need:

- 10" lamp
- CHE (ceramic heat emitter) - it's a bulb
- thermostat NOT a rheostat

I am assuming you have a digital thermometer. Go to a good petstore and ask for those three items. Thermostats can be hard to find, according to some owners. I got mine at a large pet store that specializes in fish/reptiles.

Where do you live...someone near you may be able to suggest a place.

If you're concerned about price, you can find those items on amazon for pretty cheap. I bought my lamp at a pet store since that price was about the same. But the bulb and the thermostat were waayyy cheaper on amazon than I could find locally, even with shipping! So if You have a space heater or something you can use for heat to tide you over a few days while you wait for amazon shipping, I suggest that

I have been looking at things for a CHE as well, what kind of thermostats are the best to get? Their are so many and I don't wanna pick the wrong one

It looks like from your picture that a 10-inch wide dome around the bulb would help a lot to direct the heat down into the cage. You can get them in the reptile section of places like Petco, Petsmart.

It was an absolute God-send when we were trying to figure out all the heating stuff. All the info in one place and fantastic pictures of the thermostat too.

Hi, I have couple of questions. We placed the CHE inside the cage and a little bit closer to floor level. Looking at the CHL manufacturers websites they said a cage style fixture is required for the CHL as opposed to a solid one. So that is why we went with the cage style also the pet store said if you don't the bulbs fail sooner and start dropping dust particles.

We are using a Repitemp 500R thermostat. Seems to be finicky to set the temp. Anyways is it normal that if you set the temp all the way down that it doesn't turn off? I tried that a few times and it kept powering the CEL. If the temp around the sensor is around 24c shouldn't the Repitemp shutoff is temp selected is to the lowest level? Should I stick with the 500r or maybe get a Zilla temperature controller for around $20 more?

Our cage is 41x18x22 inches, is a 100W bulb sufficient?
