Default Always secure heat lamp!

OMG!!! I just almost had a heart attack...

I got up and first thing I do is I always check on Nitzy. Well, today...HER HEAT LAMP FELL INTO HER CAGE! It was lying so the lamp was facing the air... but I can only imagine what would have had if it wasn't. I had it sitting on top of her cage like most people do. I don't have a lid on her cage, but I have a couple of squares on top so I can move the lamp around. When reading about the lamps I didn't think I would have to secure it if it was just sitting on top, but now I know I'm ALWAYS going to take that precaution... I feel so dumb. I don't even know how she managed to do it. I immediately picked her up and checked her all over, she seems fine.

I'm SO lucky nothing happened...

Wow! Thanks for sharing - hopefully it will help others prevent the same thing from happening.

Glad everything's OK!

That's why I always say to secure it to the cage. It could very quickly start a fire if it fell on the wrong thing.

Another danger is that obviously it's not supplying heat properly when in that position; it would be terrible if it fell and left my girl without adequate heat for the 10+ hours I'm not home.

I secured my clamp with mini bungee cords. These things are so handy! I can use them to wind around to secure in all sorts of ways. Another thing I've used is the velcro zip-tie-like straps. They are great because they are readjustable/removeable. (though i would not use either of these on the metal part of the dome. I am talking about the rubber-lined clamp).
