Unhappy House temp vs. cage temp

Hey all,
We just got a new furnace installed today that has a lot of fancy bells and whistles. You can program it to kick on at different temps at different times of day, like say when you wake up and when you go to bed. My mother set it to go down to 62 at night. While I don't worry about Widget staying warm enough right now in his tank since it insulates pretty well. I do worry about when he gets a new cage. Is the out side temp going to affect the inside of his cage that much? Mind you I have two CHE on him right now. A 100wt and a 150wt with the thermostat. I can put in another 150wt when he gets a cage. Is it better to just turn the heat up at night?

(Mind you I don't really understand the logic behind this furnace set up any way. I mean, why would you want it cold just because you're asleep? I know you're under blankets and all, but dude, like you're not going to notice it's freezing...?)

The thermostat on the heat emitters should keep the temperature consistent in the cage but you'll want to keep track for a few nights and make sure it does. You might have to turn the thermostat up a bit to account for the colder room.

I don't understand putting the thermostat down so low at night either. We used to and then found in the morning the furnace would run and run and run to get it back up to temp. I'm certain most of the savings overnight were lost with it running so much to get back to normal. Now we leave it the same temp all the time.

we use a lot of firewood to heat our house (old house, with a fire stove...) therefore when we're out for work during the day the house gets really cold. I have a 150w CHE in Mustard's cage and a 100w CHE in Pete's cage and they keep the temperature in the cages constant and safe. I do put some blankets on the cage walls (on the outside) though and their cages are in the 2nd floor where it's a little warmer than downstairs.

As Nancy said, you might want to monitor it for a few days just to make sure it works.

One thing I thought about is it might cause an issue with condensation on the glass. This may not be too bad since its temporary but it just came to mind so I thought I'd share just in case.

Ah thank you. So far the tank hasn't been an issue. The temp is nice and steady. My main concern was when I get him a cage.
