just a little thermostat rant
How can there be so many pet stores within my area, including big chain, family owned & those specializing in exotic animals, and yet none of them carry a thermostat? They all carry thermometers, CHE & lamps, but no thermostat. I cannot understand it. Luckily, some of the shops are very friendly and are ordering some thermostats in on their next shipment (arriving sometime next week), so we're not at a total loss. I just find it very intriguing how 2 major chains, a specialist store & an exotic pet store don't carry them. Makes me wonder how they care for their animals & manage the temperature.

My thought on this is, if they are using aquarium type setups maybe that's why they just use thermometers stuck to the side? They aren't losing heat from those as we do with our more open enclosures so they don't need the extra help of something controlling the heat.

I ran into the same problem, but in a more emergency-type situation... my thermostat controller fried when my CHE died. Saw a flash of light and it was no more.
We checked over a dozen pet supply stores all around town to get a new one... chain, independent, specialty... none had one. One had a crummy rheostat. But that's it. Had to overnight one from PetCo online... which, btw, is not really overnight. It took them a couple days to "handle" it, then shipped it. The FedEx (or whatever) was, indeed, overnight once PetCo got it to them. Sounds like the "can't find a thermostat" phenomenon is rather wide-spread.

I ordered a thermostat for a decent price from strictlypetsupplies.com. They shipped quickly and I have no complaints.
