Hi!
Is this a good thermostat? I http://www.reptiledirect.com/reptitemp5 ... ostat.aspx I want one of those where the temperature of the light bulb goes up or down according to your settings, but would this one work? Or is one of those on-off things? Would it work with a infrarred light bulb in a ceramic socket? (By the way, my light bulb isn't gonna have a housing. Meaning is just going to be the light bulb and the socket. |

infrared lights are not the best to use with hedgies as they need total darkness at night. most people on this forum use ceremic heat emitters which produce no light. and yes! the repti temp is the one where you can set the temp

Then it's appropiate, right?
Because it's gonna cost me some sweet money and I want to choose the right thing! I mean, this is one of those were you choose a temp (20C for example) and then if the temp in the room goes up, it downs the power of the lamp, and then if the temp in the room goes down, it ups the power again, right? Side note: Funny, one friend of mine, whose a vet, told me they can't see the red light! And that may be true, because he sees his hedgehogs with the light but the little ones don't notice him at all... I mean, they don't see him with the red light... |

There are some who are fine with the red light. And there are some who will not come out as often with a red light.
What you chose in the end is up to you, most do chose the CHE's in the end for the complete darkness. |

I'm using a repti temp 500R, works great. It's a bit of hit and miss to initially set - make sure you have a good thermometer for fine tuning.
I'm running a ceramic heat emitter 250W (big cage, about 10 sq ft :P) |

So you've one? Wow, is it any good?
I mean, it's gonna keep Rory warm and cozy? Because I'm in a room with three walls that are basically windows and this place, man, it can get cold when it wants! Wich is weird, because Mexico City has never been cold at all... **** you weather change! o.O And, wow, that's a big cage! Mine is smaller, so I think a 100 w infrared is gonna be alright until end of the month, when I'm gonna buy a CHE. |

Should be alright. Definently go with a CHE, i've heard infrared lights are hit or miss, some hedgies dont mind, some do. I tried heating with a 2% light, heavy tinted heat lamp. It would only push my large open cage about .3 degress F lol. didnt help much.
I went to 100W CHE but it wasnt enough for an open top case. I just built a canopy for the cage so I can cover it up to conserve heat. |

Tell me, VB_Spike, once I get the repti temp, could I ask you how to install it and stuff? I know I could with the manual and all, but I'd really like to have the input of someone who has, actually, use it for hedgehogs at leats
![]() XD And you're really lucky Immortalia! That's a nice temp to live in! XD |
