Default Need to replace thermostat

I need to replace my thermostat because the one I currently have has started acting up and I don't trust it. I have the Zoo Med ReptiTemp 500R Remote Sensor Thermostat.

I know that Zoo Med and Zilla brands are frequently recommended, but I've seen mixed reviews on both and I'm wondering if I should try another brand. I'm willing to spend a bit more money to get a real quality thermostat. The one I have now is only 6 months old, and I don't want to throw away money on something that I'm just going to have to replace in a few months.

Any recommendations for a higher quality thermostat that's reliable? Maybe in the $50 range?

I had the same one and it also only lasted about 6 months for me :-/
Unfortunately I couldn't figure out what else to get and it was winter so I needed to act fast so I just got another one of those. I'm also interested in finding out what other options there are.

I've had 3 repti temps go out on me. One blew out my power circuit in my room and the others burnt my heat lamps. And stopped working. How many lamps do you have? I have two heat lamps on my new thermostat and it has not dissapointed me at all. I have a Zilla 1,000 watt thermostat. I've had it for about 6 months now and I'm so glad I made the change. It keeps the temperature consistent and has withheld my cold Utah winters. I would highly suggest a Zilla. Also I've noticed make sure you are using a lamp that is meant for heat bulbs. I have noticed lamps you get from Walmart will burn sooner or later mine did.

Hooray for quality products! Ugh. I guess I'll try the Zilla this time. Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

I have this one: http://www.bigappleherp.com/BAH-1000-Thermostat from Big Apple. Well... sort of have it. I actually have the forerunner (the model that came before it). I've had it for several years now and haven't had to replace it with this version yet. I'm assuming this one will have similar characteristics.

I also have a couple Zilla's.

I have the Zilla #11939, 1,000 watt, with three outlets. It has worked perfectly for 1 1/2 years with three 150 watt emitters on a 26" x 68" cage. Only $26 from Amazon.

The temperature dial isn't very useful. I keep a good digital thermometer in the cage, next to the thermostat probe. That works very well. The thermostat was tweaked according to what the thermometer said. After a few adjustments it is set. Checking the thermometer every day lets me make sure nothing has changed. The thermometer has a feature that records the highest and lowest temperatures since the last reset. That is a really nice feature.
