Ok, I'll keep that in mind. I had heard some things about hedgehogs needing a lot of space and others about them not needing much space because they like to be able to hide. Lots of conflicting info. I'm currently planning on expanding as the hoglet grows (I know it doesn't take much time) because the costs are adding up and I'm hoping to spread some out some a bit.

There's a lot of outdated info that is often still spread around in regards to hedgehogs needing small cages because theyre nervous animals & like to hide - but the issue isnt the cage size, its how its set up.

Theyre incredibly active animals, and the bigger the setup, the better! I wouldn't go any smaller than 8 square feet as your permanent enclosure. It's pretty common in Sweden & Switzerland to even have them free range, and my own hog has 24/7 access to my room to explore till her hearts content. There really is no such thing as too big; just provide them with plenty to do, and the skies the limit for how big their enclosure can be.

They do like to hide, so many owners fill (within reason) their houses with all kinds of hides/tunnels/pouches/domes so that there’s not a lot of dead space, but yeah, regarding any animal really, you can’t have TOO much room 🙂
