Default another thread on lighting from 2010 I posted on today sorry

Hi everyone I understand that this post was originally posted in 2010 however it pulled right up so if anyone is able to see my new post 2019 I'm asking a question.
I've had my hedgehog Joker almost a month he's my first when I got him I bought the set up for reptiles it came with lamp and bulb wich was bright and gave off heat.
Today his bulb blew and the only bulb I had on hand was a reptile blacklight heat bulb.
After sundown I went to check his thermometer wich is staying were its supposed to however he has torn his house apart he's out of his bed so I guess that parts good but I was curious if he's unhappy about the light or am I finally seeing his natural nocturnal side ??? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated .

With hedgehogs you should have a heat emitter that only produces heat and not light. The CHE set up has to be on 24/7 which means that light at night is going to mess with the day and night cycle, which isn't a good thing.
If this new bulb isn't producing light then least night he was probably really active, if he has no wheel thats generally the reason for ripping their houses apart.

You shouldn't be using a bulb that produces light and heat, your bulb should only produce heat.
Hedgehogs being nocturnal need light all day, and completely dark at night.

Well I'm sure now that he will get a better day night cycle -12hours light during the day, and 12 hours dark during the night, that he will eventually start using his wheel. If not you can make a post to ask for help and suggestions.
