i’m new to this website so i honestly don’t know if i’m putting this in the right spot but i plan on getting a hedgehog soon but i just wanted to check to see if a critter nation is a good choice for me. I was planning on getting a double CN and putting the hedgehog on the top with the ceramic heat emitter above the cage but i was wondering if it would heat the entire cage properly? i live in Canada so it can get pretty cold so i just wanted to make sure the hedgie wouldn’t go into hibernation. should i get 2 CHE or even heating pads under the sleeping areas?

A CHE can be used in a CN.
For heat, I primarily just keep the entire room my hedgehogs are in warm. But on occasion I have had to only heat 1 cage or used a CHE with an ailing or elderly hedgehog who required a higher temperature. It really isn't hard to manage in a FN/CN style cage. For mine, I use one of the half cage shelves to sit the CHE lamp on. Clamp the lamp to the top of the cage and I usually tie it to prevent any chance it may get bumped. To help hold heat in, I drape a fleece blanket over the top/back/sides. I've only ever used 1 lamp in mine and it has successfully kept the entire cage warm. One item that I was told years ago and something you may want to consider, when purchasing your CHE lamp, look for one that has a wide reflector dome. The larger reflector will help spread the heat out, where the smaller reflectors are more designed to focus heat into hot spots.
