Default Is this kind of CHE fixture safe?

I recently bought a new fixture for my CHE. I looked on amazon and then went to the hardware store in my town to see if I could buy the same thing and support a small business. They had a regular fixture approved for a 150 watt bulb so I bought it and took it home. I just realized the inside of the fixture is plastic, and kind of thin looking. Although it's approved for 150 watts, I wasn't sure how the plastic would hold up to the heat. Has anyone used these kinds of fixtures before? Are petsuppliers the only place to buy from?
Thanks for the input.

As far as I know the fixtures/lamps have to specifically be good for ceramic heat emitters, or at least ceramic type "bulbs" in general.

Fixtures for CHEs need to be made of porcelin not plastic. A plastic fixture is a fire hazard with a CHE due to the heat they put out

Yup, agreed with Nikki. You'll want to return that one and find something that specifically says that it's rated for use with CHEs. As far as I know, the only place to find these would be a pet store, but I also admit that I haven't done a lot of looking around. If you want, you could try doing a google shopping search for Flukers clamp lamps (the most often bought CHE lamps, as far as I've seen) and see what stores around you sell them. That might give you a clue as to what stores would stock the right thing.

As others have mentioned, if it doesn't specifically say it's approved for CHE's then it isn't, and a plastic socket is not safe for any type of heating bulb nor is a ceramic socket in a standard household light fixture. Besides finding one at a pet store, the only other place might be a farmers store. They sell fixtures for brooding cages but still, it needs to say CHE safe.
