Friends,
I have just read up on this a bit more and I will definitely buy a thermometer, but I am concerned about overheating issues. I do not feel that neither my reptile nor tree frog thermometers are all that accurate. One was bought from an exotic vet, the other from the pet store. Is the ceramic emitter difficult to adjust? If I'm not getting the cage until tomorrow night and will be getting the hedgie on Thurs, is that really enough time to tell if the setting is OK? Thanks, Dana |

there are some very good thermostats that have a mobile temperature sensor. These you put in the cage next to the hiding hole. When the temperature drops below a specific temperature it will turn the emitter on, and then once it gets 2*F over that temperature it will turn off (some are 1*, some of 5*, depends) As long as the temperature doesn't rise above 80*F for prolonged periods of time you should be fine, but make sure it stays above 74*F
