Default Alternatives to CHE/electrical heaters?

So I might possibly be allowed to have a hedgehog in my dorm room (Going through avenues for this) but the dorms don't allow for space heaters or electrical heat-producing appliances. Obviously this can be a bit problematic. Are there any proven alternatives for keeping a hedgie warm? I know I could use a heat pack but there's no way to regulate that heat.

Do your dorm rooms have individual thermostats to set the temp you want? Or is the whole building on a centralized thermostat?

If you can set your own dorm room temperature, it might work. But keep in mind that most people aren't comfortable when the temp is at 75 degrees, which is about what you'd need to have it at if you had a hedgie in your dorm.

If you can't heat the air for a hedgie to 75* through a CHE, space heater, or central heat, I wouldn't recommend you get a hedgie. Heating pads/hot water bottles are OK for supplementing heat to a sick/old/especially temperature sensitive hedgehog, but it's the ambient air temperature we need to worry about with our little ones, not something warm for them to cuddle up with.

I agree with what Hanhan said. I've never stayed in dorms myself, but I've heard many stories about how wide of a range in temperature they can have, especially for dorms where it's controlled for the whole building, not room-by-room. That wouldn't be safe for a hedgehog as the only heating source.

Keeping my tropical fish tank at one temp was hard enough with heaters from all the temperature fluctuations... I couldn't imagine a cage.

I might need to see if I can include a CHE in my accommodation then...

Don't worry, if I can't heat it, I guess I'll have to give up on getting one for now

Thanks for the help!

I need to order one too -- so even though they are hard to set those are the ones that are still most recommended?
