So, I'm working on getting travel equipment for Walter and I'm curious if anyone has a recommendation between the SnuggleSafe Pet Heating Pad (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008 ... PDKIKX0DER) or the K&H Microwavable Pet Bed Warmer (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00403 ... PDKIKX0DER)?
I remember reading somewhere that there were fire issues with, I believe, the SnuggleSafe? But I can't find that now. The K&H is a little bigger but doesn't come with a cover. Has anyone used either of these products and have good/bad things to say? On a side note, I'm also getting a new 10" dome and another CHE bulb and the K&H Small Animal Electric Heating Pad. It finally feels like winter and I'm freezing so I'm paranoid about my prickly man! I'd rather be over prepared that unprepared!

I would advise not getting the K and H. We used the K and H on the farm for heating up actual little pigs --little baby pigs-- when they had to be brought in the house (we'd stick them on a baking sheet in the oven and warm them up and then put them on the heating pad. The K and H pad doesn't last long, and it gets rock hard and doesn't reheat well. We've had them fail in under 90 days.
I have an email from snuggle safe stating that it would last three years --at least. I am suggesting not the K and H, because it isn't durable, and may fail when you need it. Note: I am only saying K and H's microwave heating pad is crap, and not their electric one, because we use that too, and it is cheap and durable; although it doesn't get as warm nor is at as durable as Kann Manufacturing heating pads. |

I have numerous Snuggle safes so can only comment on them. They last well but I don't use them on a daily basis, only for vet visits, after bath or when some temporary heat is needed.
There is no fire concern with the Snuggle safe. What has happened a couple of times is that they have leaked. There are warnings not to over heat them and that seems to be what happened as both cases I know of, the time the person heated it for far exceeded the recommended. Snuggle safes also have an expiry date. I believe it's 3 years from first use. Some of mine are much older than that and I still use them, but they aren't used that often. I have one that will not hold heat for much more than an hour. I assume it's defective and I should have taken it back, but I'd had it past the return date before I realized it didn't hold the heat. When used and heated properly, Snuggle safes are great for travel, vet visits etc. ![]()

Which K&H travel ones? I found ones that you can plug into the car adapter.
I'll probably get the Snuggle Safe, I only really want it for traveling to the vet and such.

I received another email from snuggle safe. Here's the copy and paste
Hi Adam Provided the heatpad's surface is not damaged in any way and is not misshapen, it will last for a number of years. Eventually, you might find that the heating efficiency lessens, but we get reports of heatpads which are still in use after 10 years. Regards Richard Armstead Lenric C21 Ltd |
