So confused about thermostats. PLEASE help.

I know they regulate the heat of the cage but do they attach to the CHE? I'm beyond confused and I don't wanna buy something when I don't even know how to use it.

Yes. Thermostats attach to the CHE. They turn them off when the temperature gets too hot, and turns it on when it's too cold.

The CHE lamp plugs into the temp controller/thermostat. If you have a choice try to get the 1000w unit that will take 2 plugs as you can still use it in most cases with a space heater in an emerg if the CHE dies aside from the convenience of a second outlet if you ever required a second CHE.

The 500w units generally won't run a space heater as most require 700-1500w or more and have only one outlet to plug into.

Most people use the Zilla temperature controller. You can get them at most large pet stores, but they tend to be a bit on the expensive side. I ordered mine on Amazon and it ended up being MUCH cheaper.

Just to point out I have a 500w with two outlets on it so it depends which one you buy.

I have this one and it does a great job - the only con is that it doesn't have numerical temp settings - just low and high.. but once you find the "sweet spot", it's not an issue anymore.

HFH, keep in mind that lots of space heaters now have a thermostat built right in to them.

SoJessica, if you don't feel the need to get a space heater, a 500W thermostat with 2 plug-ins like the one I linked to will be sufficient. You can use 2 150W CHEs with a 500W 2 plug-in thermostat with no problems.
