Default Heating concern

Okay I haven't gotten my hedgie yet but I need some advice, I bought a Ceramic Heat Emitter and the 8.5 inch dome, and temp controller I am going to be housing my hedgie in a single level ferret nation cage I bought bass pans and urine guards to make a 7 inch wall around the pan so it can't climb and none of my kids can stick a finger in, my question is I got the lamp set up and tested to make sure it works but idk where to put the probe to monitor the heat, does anyone else use this set up and have ideas I would be so greatful I tried under the bass pan on the bottom of the cage but it didn't register the heat and I don't want to put it under the bedding in case he gets nosey and chews it or anything.

I usually put it on the front wall of the cage, somewhere in the middle. Since the FN front wall is just the doors, you could do the same, just on a side wall or the back wall. I have yet to hear of a hedgehog messing with a thermostat or thermometer probe. They're not rodents & don't usually try to chew everything - just sometimes if it smells interesting or like food!

I have it hanging down from the top of the cage.
