My hedgehog chipped his tooth
1 Attachment(s)
He was playing the other day. For quite a few hours. Still, I'm not exactly sure when he did it. I was holding him and looking at his face today and I saw that his tooth was blunt and chipped at the end. I'm not sure if he's in any pain. He seems to be acting normal. He played for quite a few hours yesterday and at the end he started falling asleep on his wheel. But he still seems normal. I emailed my vet and he responded that although it's not ideal that I should check on him for a few days because pulling a tooth unnecessarily is worse. Which I agree. Has anyone else had a hedgehog who broke off part of the tooth? And if so what course of action did you take, if any?

Also, I attached a picture. He had notes and lost of spines, but is getting better. Thanks.

As far as the tooth, I would be worried that it chipped deeply and the root may be damaged--like when we need to have a root canal. Hopefully, some will address this for you.

Do you have any idea what could have caused it? Check the cage for anything that he might have hit it on.

Are you using a water bottle or a bowl? Water bowls are safer.

I've had one who missed most of both fangs and I've seen others with just one chipped tooth. It will most likely be fine, I don't think it matters much. They don't really chew with them anyway. Just keep an eye on it to be sure there's nothing wrong with the rest of the tooth.
