Default hedgehog gone crazy?!

My little 6 month old female Hopscotch recently started becoming "crazy".
She will NOT sit still. It almost seems like she is in panic mode.
She runs from side to side in her cage.
She runs to jump on her wheel and starts running but then falls off and starts running all over her cage again.
She's never bitten me. But I can't hold her without her wanting to jump out of my hands.
I can't snuggle her without her running around everywhere.
She's starting to shed her little belly fur a little and a couple of quills are falling out.
The only way I can explain this is she's in panic mode. Like she's stressed or something.
I just want to make her feel better if that's the case.
Any ideas?
Please and thank you.

Could it be mites? Is she itching a lot?

How long has this been going on? Have you checked her over thoroughly for anything like a quill poking her or anything else that looks strange? Echoing the above question, is she itching or acting strangely in any other way (tilted head, lots of balance issues, etc.)?

Think about her environment. Has anything changed? Different food, temperature or lighting changed, new animals or people introduced to the house, any changes in scents or products in her room or her cage? Is there any chance someone is using an electronic rodent deterrent device in the building?

If you can't find anything wrong with her or her environment that you can fix that explains the behavior, I would take her to the vet in the next day or two to have her checked out more closely. Usually sudden, drastic behavior changes are a sign of something wrong.

She seems a bit off balanced, but she's not really scratching her ears or tilting to one side.
I did however change her cage to a smaller one for the time being.
But other than that she's eating and drinking fine.
I noticed this crazy behavior about 3 days ago. I'll check her througly tonight for quills poking her.
I just hope there's nothing too serious. :/

My first hedgehog did that whenever I would use scented hand lotion. She acted like I was going to kill her! Now I have a 4+ year old rescue and she is just always a spaz. I would think that was the case with yours if you hadn't said she suddenly started acting this way. Maybe it is because she is quilling.
Best of luck figuring it out.
