Default Sick hedgie

My hedgehog, Buster, has been ill the past day or so. He recently suffered an upper respiratory infection for which he was treated, and seemed to be doing better. But it looks like he has been refusing water and food, and is horrendously lethargic and cold.

I began giving him bottled water (we suspect he wasn't drinking the water because it's harder than it was at our former residence) via syringe and he's perked up some, but only had a bite of two of food once it had been moistened.

We are awaiting a vet, as no emergency vet services within an hour of our home will take him. He is on a towel ontop of a heating pad and taking more water, but is there something I can give him that will help with nutrition? Whether it's kitten milk or something along those lines? He lacks the energy to chew his hard food, and is being picky about it when it's wet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Keep him warm and try to syringe feed him not only water but food. He may only accept a mouthful or two at a time, and if so, do it frequently.

Since being on the heating pad, is he warming up but does his body still feel cold?

He is still cool, yes, but he is getting warmer.

What kind of food can I give him, other than his normal food moistened with water?

You can try anything. Boil some chicken and see if he will eat it(make sure it is cool first). You can use baby food, wet cat food or try carnivore care which can be found in some pet stores but is often ordered online. My little guy is sick too and I'm trying everything to see if he will eat.

Scrambled eggs are usually well liked.

For syringing, meat baby food or canned cat food but it needs to be put through a very fine sieve or it will clog the syringe. Warm food is usually more enticing, but make certain it isn't hot and if you microwave it, be sure to stir it so there are no hot spots.

I will try some mentioned options... Thank you both! I hope your little one feels better soon, Desiree!
