Post Running like a madwoman...

So Mocha went on an early running spree tonight (started around Midnight, instead of the usual 5:00AM and about 3:00 I decided to check her progress (since she was wheeling nonstop). When I switched on the light I thought I just saw a bunch of poo, but it was a red hue and I hoped that she didn't have anything wrong with her. I saw that it was blood and took her to the sink to wash off. I'm guessing that she ran so much that she cut herself. I'm drying her off as I type, and I'm going to clean and remove the wheel for tonight. Should I do anything else for when this happens again? Thanks
-Dustin

I've had that happen before. It always looks like a ton of blood, but they seem to be fine afterwards, and usually will wait a few months before attempting another all night running spree.

Aw, poor little girl, she just didn't seem to know when to stop. I've never had that happen before, but I also don't know how much my two run in a night. She looks so happy and calm in your lap, that's a sweet picture.

Sorry I can't offer any advice, but I'm sure others will come along with some. Perhaps like Judi said she'll wait a while before she goes on another mad spree again.

Ouch! Poor girl! Keep a close eye on her and I think I'd remove the wheel for now, don't want that foot getting infected. Hopefully Nancy will reply soon, she's the best.

Ah shucks Larry.

Is she fairly new to a wheel, or new to the CSW? Often those who have gotten a wheel or a different wheel recently can run their feet raw. It's difficult to tell but does the ouchy look like a cut or a scrap? What often happens is a pressure point on their foot, as in the part of the food that hits the wheel first, can develop an irritation. As they get used to the wheel, their feet get tougher and it doesn't happen. Think of us at the beginning of the summer and walking barefoot. Our feet are tender at first but the more we are barefoot, the tougher our feet become. Same thing with hedgies.

She's been on the wheel for about little over 3 months now. (see Wheeling Progress in signature)
It looks like a cut, specifically between the toes.

Thanks Nancy

If it's between the toes, it is probably a stress crack and that is very common. They spread their toes as they run and when they run and run and run it can crack the skin between the toes. Bleeds like crazy but do you think they might stop running.... noooooo!
