Default Peely Skin

Been treating Roxie with flaxeed oil for the last month or so for her dry and flaky skin. While it really works wonders, she ends up being covered with loads of the old yellow peels of skin falling off. The thing is, they're rather loose but almost impossible to get off the hedgie because she dosen't want to cooperate and I can't get to them (they're all in her quills) during bath time even.

She's not scratching either so the ones on her ears aren't really going anywhere. I don't think hedgies shed skin this way naturally, so I'm finding this rather bizzare. She dosen't smell either, just looks incredibly raggedy...

Any ideas?

She may have more than just dry skin. My Emma had HORRID dry skin combined with massive quill loss and her's was a hormonal issue caused by a growth in her uterus. Her skin was like your girls, yellow gobs of skin.

Em never scratched, just lost quills and skin and we tried everything and she had numerous negative skin scraps for both mites, fungus and bacteria.

It may not be the same with your girl but a vet visit would be a good idea to rule out other causes.

Thanks Nancy, I'll go bug my vet for an appointment first thing tomorrow.

Here's a pic (which I should have posted earlier XP) I just took of my girl just to show how the peelyness is like. The worst is in her visor.

Seems the peely yellow bits was just caked flaxeed oil :P and on top of that she could possibly have a fungus. I have to take her to the vet again in a couple of days time so the appropriate vet can finally see her.

The last time I went I was told to come back during working hours (uh, I can't? and they said they open up till 8 too!) so the vet could see her proper =_=

I'll update again once we get to the bottom of the peeling and sudden immense quill losing.
