Default Update on Beck's treatment

Despite my initial panic attack when the vet told me Beck's heart meds wouldn't arrive until 5 on Friday, approximately three hours after my ride left for home for reading week, my dear vet did some legwork for me, and made a trip herself to the compounders to get his medicine to the clinic before I left. So I was so so SO grateful for that. She arrived back at the clinic with it literally as we were pulling into their driveway on our way out of town. Phew.

What we settled on with meds was 0.2 mg of enalapril and 1 mg of furosamide twice a day. The compounder pulled through for me and put it in a lovely peanut butter flavour, and I'm happy to report that Beck is slurping it up in his wetted kibble twice a day. He's been getting it for two days, and he seems less lethargic and more inquisitive, so I'm hoping it's doing its job. I've also noticed lots of peeing, which I'm assuming means that the diuretic is doing its job.

I just hope it buys my little old man some time. Unfortunately there's no fixing the problem, but hopefully I caught it early enough that he'll have some quality time left.

Glad you got Beck's medication sorted out and that you are seeing some improvement. Also now he has his meds it is progress to him having more quality time with you.

If you need anything I am only an email away.

I can't believe I forgot all about this. Here is a link to information on Cardiomyopathy in captive African hedgehogs (Atelerix albiventris). Geez, my mind really is going.

I hope it is helpful.
