Default Weird squishy spot on neck and losing quills?

My hedgehog is 5 years old, and he seems to be in overall good health. He's active, eats well, and has no trouble moving around. However, there are two things that I'm really worried about. For one, his lower back is almost completely bald. His other quills seem to be healthy, but his lower back is just bare...And tonight I just noticed that he has this weird, squishy bump on his neck, behind his head. It's about the size of a quarter but it's not very noticeable. Whenever I touch it, it just feels squishy and like it's full of air...I have no idea what this could be. I don't think it's a tumor.
Does anybody know what might be wrong with him? I'm thinking it might be mites, but I'm really not sure if that would explain the bump. I'm really concerned for my little guy, any help would be appreciated...Thanks!

That's an old hedgehog by any definition; a nice long life.

For how long his his lower back been quilless? Over what time span did it occur? When was his last full vet checkup?

Probably not air. Could be blood pocket, water pocket, infected fluids, cancerous mass . . . .

No offense, but do you have the medical background to draw that conclusion?

What are you seeing, specifically, to lean toward mites?

Sounds to me like you need a vet ASAP. That's usually the answer to a question like this.

You need to seek a veterinarian for diagnosis. The symptoms you describe could be caused by a variety of things, all of which no one on the internet can diagnose. If his back is bald, it sounds like whatever issue he is suffering from he has had for a while and it has gone unchecked for too long. Seek veterinary attention as soon as possible. He may not seem like he is uncomfortable, but hedgehogs hide pain and illness extremely well.
