Default Hedgehog not doing too well - What is this lump?

Hi everyone. This is my first post so I'm not sure if I'm doing all this correctly.

My hedgehog will be four years old in late November. To make a long story short, she has a large lump behind her front leg and it's been draining this smelly liquid the last week. She hasn't eaten, drank or gone to the bathroom in the last three or four days. All she does is sleep and she can barely walk. I think she's on her way out. I've been taking her out every day to syringe feed her warm water with sugar and salt (for rehydration) and some nutrion-enriched baby cereal.

Here's a link to some photos of the lump. Some people are saying it looks like a mammary tumor. http://imgur.com/OKtFb4F,20FGlPc,RMnAypk

I'm debating whether to bring her to the vet because the closest exotic vet is not very close, and if she's truly dying I don't want to make more stress on her than necessary. Plus as you could imagine the vet bills would be quite extensive if they were to operate (which also could kill her).

This is all very tough on me so any advice would be appreciated!

You need to take her to a vet asap. Hedgehogs are very good at hiding pain and illness and she's probably in a lot of pain. Think of how you would feel with a stinky draining mass on your body like that. Even if it is a tumour and they can't operate they can at least give you something to help it heal and some pain meds. Leaving her like that is cruel.

Ouch!! She needs a vet, like now! Poor girl. She can't walk because it's probably too painful. That's horrible looking. I wish I didn't even look at it.

Default Just an update!

I took Kashmir to the vet yesterday and they told me it was an infected abscess. So she's going in for surgery tomorrow. She's pretty weak but I'm hoping she makes it to 8am tomorrow. Wish her luck!

Good luck. I hope she makes it through the surgery and recovers well. I didn't see this thread before, but you should change what you're feeding her. It'd be better to syringe-feed her either baby food like chicken or turkey & sweet potato, or to get some canned cat food to syringe. Baby cereal isn't really enough on its own. How much are you getting in her in a day? Try to get 24-30ml into her. You may have to feed her every couple of hours if she's not eating much at a time. Keep her warm as well, since she doesn't have much energy or strength to keep her body temp up right now.

Default Rip kashmir

Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know that Kashmir passed away today. I am absolutely devastated and beside myself. I am so upset that I didn't take action sooner. But she was a great hedgehog and I think I gave her a good life up until this point. Thanks again for everyone's help and concern
