Default herpes question

Hi,

I'm a new hedgie owner. I've had Mr. Bean for about 6 weeks. I have devoured this forum for info. My question is, I have a cat that has feline herpes virus. He is never in contact with my hedgie. Is that virus able to pass between those species? I had never thought about it, but my friend thinks ferrets can get it, and thought I should look into it.
Thanks for any help,

Stephanie

Welcome to HHC! Mr. Bean is a very cute name.
That's a good question, & honestly, I don't have any idea. But...didn't want that to stop me from welcoming you. Hopefully someone else can answer your question...

I really have no clue if a hedgehog could get it from a cat but I do know ferrets can easily get flu and other viruses from both humans and other pets.

thanks for the welcome. It never crossed my mind until she mentioned it today. She's had ferrets, so she knows all of their ins and outs.

I'm going to be no help either on your question, but I would like to say, just make sure that you wash your hands with unscented soap every time you go to play with your hedgie. This will breakdown most germs that could come from you or your cat.
Oh, and welcome to HHC!

Are you sure it's feline herpes. I haven't heard of cats having that, is it maybe feline aids? If it's aids you are talking about then the answer is no, it can only be transferred between cats not any other species. I took in a cat that had aids so I did extensive searching and asking my vet about transmission and all that.

I stand corrected there is a virus called fhv in cats. I looked it up and it can not be transferred to other species.
