Default update on the Russian hedgie's health

he is doing well. :P

i am posting some pictures by way of evidence:

he must've had a strong immune system for the wound to heal so fast and of course his current caretaker really cared.

Glad he is on the mend, the wound looks to be healing nicely. Will his caretaker be releasing him back into the wild?

That is really great news that he is on his way to being all healed up, that wound looks tons better. It is great that he had such care I think the only hard part would be letting him go, I would have a hard time with it.

That's great! What did you end up doing (if anything) to help that open wound? I'm not sure if you're thinking of domesticating a wild hedgehog, but either way it's great to see the li'l hedgie is healing!

his caretaker will keep him in her apartment (separate room, lucky hog) during the winter, while he hibernates. like i said, he's been building a nest. then she'll let him loose in the area with summerhouses where she found him. there's one woman who always feeds and takes care of some wild hedgies (i.e., they come to her place...) and she agreed to look after him.

his current caretaker doesn't know what happened to him... but she's giving a lot of thought to his well-being. she's quite in love with him, i might add. :P

This might be a silly question, but when animals (including hedgehogs) hibernate, do they need to be in a much cooler environment? Doesn't cooler weather slow metabolism so that nutrients/etc aren't used up excessively in the process?

It's good that he's being so well taken care of and I'm sure none of us are surprised his caretaker is in love with him now!
