Default Grapes - "Documented Medical Evidence" of their toxicity?

This is in reference to this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4687

I wanted to post it here to make sure the right people see it.

The Memphis zoo, in response to my questioning the feeding of grapes "as a treat" to their hedgehogs, sent this message to me via twitter:

Quote:
"They are toxic to certain dog breeds, but we've found no documented medical evidence that grapes are toxic to hedgehogs"
Can anyone provide evidence I can send them?

from the ASPCA Poison Control site

Quote:
Grapes & Raisins
Although the toxic substance within grapes and raisins is unknown, these fruits can cause kidney failure. In pets who already have certain health problems, signs may be more dramatic.

Twittered that link back to them... I doubt they're going to care though since it's not hedgehog specific.

@MemphisZoo It's not something I personally would risk with any animal. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-co ... foods.html 8 minutes ago from web in reply to MemphisZoo

Also.. is it only actual grapes or could it include other things like cranberries, blackberries, and other type of berry fruits?

As far as I know, it's only grapes. Berries aren't harmful to them, and cranberries are good for urinary health.
