Exclamation Possibly Sick Hedgie

Hi there!

I read this forum all the time but have yet to really need serious advice for my hedgehog. Her name is Romana and she's just over a year old. I'm actually away for the weekend but she is being cared for by my partner (who is basically her dad, we take joint-responsibility for her!) and he is very concerned about her health.

Basically she is being extremely jumpy, puffing up far more quickly and for longer than she ever does normally. She is also sort of acting strangely around her house and her wheel, climbing a little and rubbing her face on the walls. While cleaning her wheel, my partner thought he noticed a little red in one of her dried turds, but her current poop is fairly normal if a little green and her fleece bedding is a reddish color at the moment, so she may have just ingested a bit of fluff? It is very hard to tell.

He's taking her to an emergency clinic right now that unfortunately does not specialize in exotics but has had some experience with hedgehogs, because our regular exotic vet is gone until Wednesday for the holiday weekend (agh!!)

I know this is super vague but we are both extremely worried and wondering if anyone has any possible wisdom to impart! She seems to be eating and drinking normally, and she ran on her wheel last night, but my partner thinks she's walking a little strangely--not dragging her butt, but definitely with her butt pointed down (usually you can see her tail when she walks).

Hopefully the vet can give us a little information, but I figured I'd ask just the same, in case anyone has had a similar experience!

Hmmm... I don't have any experience with issues like this, but I hope the vet is helpful! Good news is that red blood means it's entering the digestive system quite near the exit, so probably irritated colon (if it was blood). Much better than internal bleeding!

Also, is she named for a Time Lord?

So I'm finally back home with my poor girl, and both the vet and my partner and I seem to think it's either mites or just very dry, irritated skin. Fortunately a very easy fix! We're definitely going to keep an eye on her, though she seems to be getting much better already.

Also, yes! Her full name is Romana III (: she is the cutest of Time Lords

You make excellent life choices.

Glad to hear Romana is doing better - wouldn't do to have her regenerate just yet!
