Default First Vet Visits

I took both of my hedgies in to see the vet today for wellness exams and they both came back with clean bills of health! Bebop being the stinker that he is of course didn't want to cooperate and unball or stop hissing and popping for the vet though. Thankfully after I recommended putting him in water, he started unballing and trying to scamper off when she just put him near the running faucet without even getting him wet. So it wasn't the most "conventional" exam, seeing as she had to do it bit by bit and examine him next to the sink instead of on the normal exam table, but she was very patient with him and was able to complete the entire exam without him needing to be sedated. Which makes me a VERY happy mommy! And as difficult as he was trying to be, I was actually relieved that he eventually calmed down just enough to let her examine him thoroughly, because he does not do well with anyone besides me and typically never unballs or stops being loud if someone else is around.

Jenna, being her typical self, was a gem and behaved wonderfully. Except for the one time the vet actually WANTED her to ball up she wouldn't do it. That silly girl prefers to lay out flat more often than even partially curl up. Her exam took almost no time to complete compared to Bebop's!

But I'm just happy (as I'm sure they are) that the vet visits are over with and nothing else needs to be done for them.

If you don't mind me asking, where are you from and how much did it set you back?

That's great that the visits went well! Lily had to be put in water once at the vet's too...she was in a bad mood that day and we didn't have her usual vet. That's wonderful that your vet was so willing to be patient with him...definitely reassuring to see how good they can be with the animals!

I live in Illinois, in the Chicago suburbs. And it wasn't too bad pricewise, it was about $125 total for both exams. Much cheaper than my dogs exam, shots, bloodwork etc. lol.

I was so glad that she was as patient and sweet to him as she was. The last two exotics vets I've really liked that treated my guinea pig and hamster for emergencies unfortunately no longer practice in the area but thankfully a few of my friends have used this vet clinic for their rats and birds and have been very happy with them.

It's hard enough to find a vet that you like and trust for a dog or cat, but I'm soo glad that I listened to my friends opinions of this practice. It definitely makes a difference to get firsthand opinions
