Soo as some know I had issues with Holly's weight - we're still working on it but yea I just want to get some more opinions on this.
Whilst her weight is changing, I just want check I'm not imaging it that the extra fat is going down too!
Sometimes other people see the difference more than I can because I see her all the time, where you only see her in what I show and that's not all that often!

So all the photos are dated and below are the ages and weights from around those dates.

Starting in September where the photos start -
3rd September 18 she was 500g at 4 months
22nd September 18 she was 500g at
5 months
14th October 18 she was 530g at 5 months

Jumping to december 18
11th December she was 600g at 7 months

Jumping to January 19
5th January 19 she was 620g at 8 months
20th January she was 678g at 10 months

Jumping to march 19
25th March 19 she was 713g at 11 months
This is when I changed her biscuit at this point it wasnt great but the fat was lower than the one the breeder told us to use for her whole life - I was told all through these months (not on this forum a different place) that she was not overweight! I listened as I didn't know any better at the time. When she got this high I knew that theres no way its right! Really annoys me that I ever let her get that bad.
I then started to weight her more because I was told I only needed to weigh monthly -hence why they are all over the place

8th April 19 she she was 706g at 11 months
14th April she was 691g at 11 months
21st April she was 680g at 1 year 1 day!
28th April she was 679g at 1 year

5th May 19 she was 669g at 1 year
12th May she was 669g at 1 year
19th May she was 671g at 1 year
26th May she was 662g at 1 year 1 month

2nd June she was 653g at 1 year 1 month 1 week
And still went down steadily each week, sometime there would be weeks she went up or stayed the same not losing anything but mostly she just did a steady decrease in weight.
I cant really remember but some point from April to June I also reduced the biscuit amount given because I was giving to much and she ate too much.
I just really can't be bothered to type each week so going to jump a bit.

7th July 19 she was 608g at 1 year 2 months
I changed her food again from the 16/7/19 to the 2/9/19 - I changed the mix so the carbs became lower with help from here. I also added in more alternatives to try get her eating less biscuit.
4th August she was 600g at 1 year 3 months
25th August she was 593g at 1 year 4 months

Through September, October, November she was going between 600-580g I wont give each weekly date just the beginning and end of each month
1st September 19 she was 611g at 1 year 4 months
29th September 19 she was 607g 1 year 5 months
6th October 19 she was 608g at 1 year 5 months
27th October 19 she was 597g at 1 year 6 months
3rd November 19 she was 594g at 1 year 6 months
24th November she was 593g at 1 year 7 months

1st December 19 she was 600g at 1 year 7 months
16th December 19 she was 608g at 1 year 7 months
On the 17th December 19 I changed the amount of biscuit I gave her which in turn changed how much she ate, because she started to eat a lot more and got a bit less active!
Now Christmas day she got her Christmas dinner, and because we went away it gave me room to set up a massive play pen which I can't just yet at home (although I am working on it and I've almost got enough sorted so that she has one but whilst I have been sorting this I have been using small areas wherever and whenever I can!)
Anyway so between the 28th-2nd she was slightly more active!
29th December 19 she was 593g at 1 year 8 months

I'm going to do at first weight of the month and the last date of the month - unless I need to do another date in that month!
5th January 20 she was 575g at 1 year 8 months
26th January 20 she was 575g at 1 year 9 months
2nd February 20 she was 665g at 1 year 9 months
23rd February 20 she was 567g at 1 year 10 months
1st March 20 she was 558g at 1 year 10 months
8th March 20 she was 557g at1 year 10 months

So as you can see I'm doing everything I can for her, and her weight is dropping. And I think that the excess fat is going. But I just want to be so I'm asking.

Okay so this her now more up to date.

29th March she was 553g
5th April she was 567g
And the pictures are last nights

I think she has loss a lot of the excess fat. Not all of it. But most of it.
Just need people who don't see her all the time, and know what they are looking for to just I dont know, you guys might see if she actually has or if I'm just hoping she has.

You've done a lot of work! That's so great :) Personally I don't really know a lot about this, but she looks to be a pretty healthy weight. She looks a lot better to me :) I'd say keep weighing her regularly though.

And Ria, I know you've disagreed with a lot of stuff I've said on other threads. I'm sorry, I'm still learning and just want to help. :)

Thank you, honestly anyone else other than me seeing any difference even if they aren't too sure what they are looking for is so helpful!

Her last weight on sun 12th April was 559g
She'll be weighed again tomorrow night as I weigh her every Sunday!

She'll be 2 on the 20th April, and I really was hoping that majority would be gone by now which it has.

I really dont mean to disagree. I was trying to help you by letting you know what you had been told was wrong, and giving you the correct information I just have really bad wording!

The main reason I let Holly get overweight was because of the wrong information I was given which really annoys me even now! And I would hate for someone else who cares a lot about their hog let wrong information get in the way and cause any issues for the care given!

HedgieloveHershey 04-18-2020 08:35 PM

Thank you so much! I'm glad you care about Holly just as I care about my hedgehog :) Thanks for trying to help! I really appreciate it. So glad Holly is so much healthier!!

So the last few weeks from the 20th April to 10th may she has been between 560g and 567g
It looks like the excess fat on the top of her legs has gone down even though her weight hasn't really changed (might just be in my head!

She gets weighed again tomorrow (17th)
And I'll see if I can get better photos for seeing how excess fat is really still there.

She is really lazy! Last night I had her out in the play running around like sonic for 50 mins. And then she did no running on her wheel! Was still active finding the rest of her insects and playing with her toys but only for like half an hour.

OddDarkMatter91 05-16-2020 02:35 PM

I hope the fat did go down! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s weighing

So she now weighs 572g.
Seems to be going up! Lazy hog!
But the excess fat still looks a little less than it was in March. Is it just me.that sees that!? Is it in my head😂

OddDarkMatter91 05-17-2020 06:57 PM

No? I mean, she looks good to me. 😅 but then again, I’m not one hundred percent sure on how hedgies should look so 😂

Ria 05-18-2020 03:07 AM

I feel like she still has more fat to loose.
But I'm not 100% sure.we were trying to get her down to 550g.
