Default Paranoid Hedgie Mom

Hi everyone! We have had our 3 month old hedgie for a week. We noticed last night when we had her out that she has a runny nose. I had her in a box and she pressed her nose against it and left a wet spot. She is eating and drinking great. Though I did notice last night she did not run in her wheel. I do have a vet appointment, but was hoping for any advice.

Her bedding is Carefresh.
She is 3 months old
I keep the house at 73 degrees

Hey there! Hedgehog noses are naturally moist just like a dog’s would be. As long as it’s not noticeably dripping or leaving large drops that run on the plastic, you shouldn’t have to worry about that.
Hedgehogs do better with a heat lamp set up directly on their enclosure to better regulate their temperature. Sometimes the house thermostat might say a room is at a certain temp but it could fluxtuate, and he might have just gotten a bit cold last night which moved him to save up some energy. If possible, maybe just bump the thermostat up another degree or two. And I would highly consider a ceramic heat emitting light bulb in a dome lamp that sits on top of his enclosure!
Hope this helps 🙂

Welcome, hedgies can be very temperature sensitive. Ours is most active at night at temps between 76-80. A CHE and thermostat controler is the easiest way to control the temp in their pens. Babies also seem to like it a little warmer than adults. Ours normally has a moist nose and a real moist face when she has been playing in her water bowl!!
