Default Mites and household stuff

So we rescued our first hedgehog around three weeks ago, he came with carefreah bedding and a few fleece items. We changed his bedding to be completely fleece based (fleece liners, tunnels etc) however he started itching and we took him to the vets. He is having this treated but I want to know how to treat his enclosure area and the furniture that is in the same room as him.? Is everything safe I.e the sofa, carpet etc? Also I don't know whether anyone knows about chinchillas but upstairs I got 8 would they be in danger of the mite infestation as well? Any help would be amazing, thank you!

Hey there! If your hedgehog does end up having mites, definitely throw everything possible in the washer on hot- fleece, bedding, blankets etc. Unlike bed bugs, mites can only live off of an organism for up to a few days, so if you have no way of professionally cleaning your furniture, just stay away from the pieces your hedgehog has had access to for a few days to a week. This is not a professional opinion however, simply another Hedgie owner giving some tips! With that being said, the chinchillas very well could come into contact with the mites if they live close enough to your hedgie. Treating mites is rarely a life threatening issue, so just give it some time and patience!
Hope this helps 🙂
