Default Worried about my mama hedgie

My hedgehog had three little babies three weeks ago. One passed away bc it was super weak & it had a flimsy leg. The other two seem completely healthy. I have been holding the babies for a week now only a few moments at a time & not more than twice a day. Yesterday the mama hedgie rolled into a tight ballwhen i tried to pick her up & hissed when i tried to pick her up. So i let her have her space for the day & the next morning i slightly picked her up to move her over a couple inches & she got stiff & stuck her tongue out. It scared me so i put her little house back over her & left her be. A couple minutes later i shined a light in through the side to just check on her & she was in a tight ball again. I’m worried something is wrong with her bc she’s never done this before. She’s even had a litter 5 months ago of 5 healthy babies. I don’t want anything to happen to her or her babies. Please help!

If the babies are doing ok she may just a little stand offish from not being handled the last couple of weeks. It may take her a little while to get to know you again.

I’m worried its something worse than that by the way she gets stiff & opens her mouth. She looks as if she gets winded but i barely move her whenever i do move her. She seems to only do it in the morning bc i picked her up in the afternoon & she seems fine. She walks normal & doesn’t get stiff

Yes , that doesn't sound like a handling problem, any other changes ? temp, light ,food, good quality food? babies can draw a lot out of momma. Maybe time for a vet checkup with a blood panel.

I did mover her from my boyfriend’s house to mine when the babies where two weeks old but she didn’t start doing that until a week later. I give her cat food & mealworms.

Is there any way that you can post a photo or video of mama for us to see?

It could be because you're disturbing her and the babies at a time when she's probably just gone to sleep. If it's only happening in the morning then I would leave her alone in the mornings and see how she is later in the day.
