Default Recent Surgery

My hedgehog, Lucy, was spayed 2 weeks ago due to uterine bleeding. She lost a lot of blood and needed to be hospitalized with a catheter for a week. She has been home for a week and will not eat any food on her own so we need to syringe feed her 3 times per day. She also continues to have green diarrhea. Does anyone have any advice on how to get her to eat on her own and get back to her routine?

I don't have experience with post surgery but I've read other posts and believe you can get nutrient packed wet canned food for sick animals from your vet (or even some pet stores) that help sick animals post surgery or underweight animals to help boost their appetite again. One is carnival care and the other is hills a/d. It is also a good liquid food if needing to syringe feed.

Re the the green stool, you could try giving her probiotics like benebac (available on Amazon), just sprinkle a pinch in the food once a day. You need to give it separately to her medication if she is on antibiotics and wait at least 2 hours after giving her antibiotics, as otherwise the antibiotic will destroy the probiotic and it will have no effect). It helped my boy when he was previously on antibiotics for a GI infection and also when he had a URI and even when his appeptite was low recently. Probiotics help to restore the good bacteria in their gut that antibiotics destroy and also help settle their stomach if they are stressed.

Hope she fully recovers soon ♡
