Hi everyone. My little man, Pokey, is 1.5 years old. He has always had some mottling around his ears but lately I have noticed that the edges of the right ear especially are getting tattered and less smooth. I read the related forums and have checked him over for mites, which he does not appear to have. He doesn't seem bothered by the condition - - no itching or quill loss.

I'm wondering if I should try the Olive oil treatment for a week or so before bringing him to the vet? I usually wash him in Aveeno baby wash but will switch him to the oatmeal wash since folks seem to think it's less drying.

I've attached a closeup of him where you can see the affected area on the right ear. The second photo shows the natural mottling of the ear that has been there since he was born.

Do those with experience agree that this is likely dry skin? Thanks so much for your help! Hi Pokey’s mom!
Eggsy’s ears got pretty dry and I read somewhere that oil will help. Just don’t use anything with a strong scent/acidic/petroleum based. I just melted some coconut oil between my fingers and rubbed them on Eggsy’s ears real quick and I haven’t seen them get dry at all since and that was about a month ago. You can see in this pic how dry they were. And I’ve read they can get a little tattered over time or with dryness.
