Hazel was diagnosed with a URI yesterday. She's on baytril, which apparently tastes great because she licks it right up. But she's quilling, is a very careful bath ok, or should I wait? I'm going to get her some humilac too, but I thought an oatmeal bath would be nice for her. She's 8 weeks today. Also, can URIs be passed from one hog to another? She was housed with her sisters at her breeders, I don't want them to be sick and not get treatment.

Well, I don't think I would bathe her unless she is really dirty (poop all over her or very poopy feet). She is very young and I would just wait until she is no longer sniffly and snotty, etc. I personally would just let her be for a bit.
As far as the URI spreading, I guess it would depend on the cause (viral? etc.) but I personally would not risk it. If you have other options I would cage her separately until she no longer has symptoms and it's clear the medicine is working. Good luck, Susan H. |

All you can do is let the breeder know and hope he/she passes the information on. As for the bath, I wouldn't give her one till she was completely better and off antibiotics
