Default Help!

We had a beaded necklace that was broken fall on the ground and our hedgehog wandered into the corner and found one of the loose beads and may have swallowed it! The bead is slightly larger then the size of a pea. Should we be worried? What should we do? Thanks

Default Re: Help!

Was the bead round or did it have any sharper edges, corners, etc? I think personally I'd schedule a vet visit to see if you can get an x-ray or ultrasound done (not sure which one it would show up on, if she did eat it)...with as small as hedgehogs are, I'm not sure it could pass through her system safely. You may get more comments/opinions tomorrow too though, once people are awake and on again.

For any emergency signs to keep an eye out for: not eating/drinking/running, listless or unusual behavior, straining to poop, and different colored poop (especially red or black & tarry, which would indicate internal bleeding). If you see any of that, I'd get her into the vet ASAP.
